All you need to know about genital herpes!
Genital herpes is a sexually
transmitted infection, which is caused by herpes simplex virus(HSV). Primarily,
the virus spreads through sexual contact. Genital herpes could cause pain and
itching in the genital area. It can be very contagious even if there are no
visible sores that normally occur.
Common symptoms
People who are affected with HSV might
not be aware of due to the mild signs or symptoms. The basic symptoms of a
person experiencing genital herpes such pain,itching, ulcers, scabs,small red
bumps or tiny white blisters around the buttocks, thighs, vaginal area for
women and penis for men.
Risk factors
The risk of contracting genital
herpes are higher for women as the virus is sexually transmitted easily from
men to women than women to men. The major risk is in having multiple sexual
partners causing each additional sexual partner with the risk of being exposed
to the virus.
Complications
People with genital herpes might
have complications such as bladder problems as the sores might cause
inflammation around the tube through which urine passes from the bladder to the
urethra. A swelling tends to close the urethra for several days, which might
require the insertion of a catheter to drain the bladder. Identifying the signs
and symptoms in the beginning and with proper genital herpes treatment,
this infection can be dealt with.
Solutions
As of now there are no permanent herpes virus solutions to
cure it, but can prevented by using latex condoms while having sexual
intercourse or avoid sexual intercourse even if either of the partners has an outbreak
of herpes in their genital area or anywhere else in order to avoid the further
complications caused by the virus.
